GET OUT THE VOTE
NORTH SAN JOAQUIN, SOUTH SAN JOAQUIN AND COACHELLA VALLEYS

Through phone banks and canvassing, CNC staff and volunteers are engaging infrequent voters who support affordable health care that protects Medicare and Medicaid & coverage for people with pre-existing conditions; quality jobs that do not fluctuate based on political assaults like trade wars; clean drinking water that is protected against unbridled exposure to pesticides; and immigration policy that protects refugee immigrants from family separation.

The San Joaquin Valley is an agricultural region home to 3.9 million residents and 2,407,401 voters and covers an area of 24,000 square miles. Foreign born residents represent 21.4 percent of the population and growing. Similarly, the Eastern Coachella Valley is also an agriculture region with a population of 34,207. Sixty-four percent of the total population are Latino. Thirty-four percent of which are foreign born immigrants.

It is a region with chronic poverty and pollution levels rivaling the hardest hit areas in California and the nation. The groundwater is widely contaminated and being rapidly depleted. The cities and towns of both the North Valley and South Valley regions consistently have the worst air quality in the United States.

Politically, San Joaquin Valley elected officials have demonstrated their ability to transform – or outright block – California’s ability to pass a state budget and progressive public policy. Our teams in the valley are fighting to hold our elected representatives accountable to represent the families in the neighborhoods they are supposed to serve. CNC is not only ending but reversing that trend.
